A) What qualities make the nominee deserving of the Z3 Bridge Builder Award?
Jeff has always had a passion for politics and since moving to North Carolina almost 30 years ago, he/we have been very involved in Charlotte's Jewish community. Jeff was invited to participate in the setup of the North Carolina Democratic Jewish Caucus. He has been instrumental in making the Caucus a reality and has confronted a great deal of opposition along the way. He currently serves as President of the NC Jewish Democratic Caucus and is actively supporting Jewish and non-Jewish candidates supportive of Jewish ideals.
He is an articulate problem-solver and a bridge builder. He was a qualitative research professional before retiring and has the natural ability to create an environment where everyone feels heard, but work still gets accomplished.
He is passionate about his Judaism. Jeff was raised as a reform Jew and has been on the Temple Board, President of the Foundation for the Charlotte Jewish Community, Executive Board member of the Jewish Community Center and President of Temple Beth El Brotherhood. He recently returned from a Chabad service trip to Israel, where he worked alongside of October 7th survivors, met with hostage families and learned about new perspectives on the crisis.
B) In what ways has the nominee demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to their work in bridging divides?
Jeff is a persuasive collaborator/leader. It is critical to his work-style to be inclusive and listen to everyone. He has opinions, but he is fair and just and goal-oriented.
C) How has the nominee's work impacted the Jewish community and beyond?
Jeff was one of the architects of Charlotte's "Create Your Jewish Legacy" which has received commitments of hundreds of thousands of dollars that will stay in our Jewish community to ensure the future of the largest Jewish community in North Carolina.
