Chanan Tigay is Editor-in-Chief of J. The Jewish News of Northern California; author of The Lost Book of Moses: The Hunt for the World's Oldest Bible (HarperCollins), winner of the Anne & Robert Cowan Writers Prize and finalist for the Sami Rohr book prize; and is an associate professor at San Francisco State University, where he serves as chair of the Creative Writing Department.
His journalism has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, GQ, the Wall Street Journal, BBC.com, the San Francisco Chronicle, AFP, UPI and The Jerusalem Post. His Smithsonian article on Holocaust rescuer Aristides de Sousa Mendes was recently optioned for film. Tigay was also featured in the two-hour History Channel special "The God Code."
Among other postings, Tigay has covered the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the Jerusalem bureau of Agence France-Presse; 9-11 and the church abuse scandals for AFP’s New York bureau; the anthrax attacks and Ground Zero recovery work for United Press International; and the United Nations for The Jerusalem Report magazine.
