Yael Vias Gvirsman is a leading expert in international criminal law (ICL) and humanitarian law (IHL) with over 20 years of experience. She worked as a humanitarian, researcher, Prosecutor at the State Attorney’s Office, defense attorney at International Criminal Courts and Tribunals, and in representing victims of international crimes before international and domestic courts. Her experience spans atrocities committed in Darfur-Sudan, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, former Yugoslavia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine and more. Since October 7, Hamas attacks, atrocities are at home, her response was designing an
unmatched, victim-centered legal front for accountability. Alongside her hands-on experience implementing ICL, Yael as a lecturer in International law with a focus on International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law, including Business and Human Rights and Transitional Justice. For the past decade, as Founding Director of the International Criminal and Humanitarian Law Clinic, she worked on projects with leading practitioners facing the challenges of implementing IHL. This includes the ICRC, NATO, International Organisations and civil society organisations. She co-established an
International IHL Clinic Exchange Program with Emory (US), and Leiden (The Netherlands) Universities, including partnership with Roma Tre University (Italy) and the Geneva Academy.
Since October 7, Yael has been at the forefront of October 7 Justice Without Borders, an NGO she founded, dedicated to securing justice for victims of the October 7 massacre. The organization focuses on documenting atrocities, preserving evidence, and advocating for accountability across borders. Yael’s leadership is instrumental in ensuring that victims voices are heard and justice is pursued globally. She continues to advise on critical cases of war crimes and human rights violations, leveraging her extensive expertise and dedication to international justice.
